Flood damage in Venazza

The October 2011 flood certainly left its mark on the village of Venazza. In the main street the water height can be estimated from the damage. All the ground floor rooms were gutted and in many cases the plaster facades on the first floors were chipped off as well.

I bet the owner of the house below has a note on his fridge saying “Remember: next time, build house further away from creek”...

The flood washed tonnes of sediment down from the hills and turned the stunning deep green harbour into a pile of sludge. Diggers are slowly making progress turning it back into a harbour. But because access to the site is limited they can only use relatively small equipment. It will take a while to fix.
For now, much of the village is a building site. A very pretty building site in a stunning location.
