We arrived in Florence at midday on Sunday and were shocked by the crowds in the city centre. Wall to wall people, from one side of the road to the other. If you have seen the crowds in Auckland at the start of the 'round the bays' run - then it was like that. But with more stilletos. Insane. If this
is the low season, I would hate to see the high season.
The buildings and statues in Florence are absolutely beautiful but after four hours we had seen
enough. We immediately went back to the train station and booked our train ticket to the coast. We are keen to go walking in the hills above the Cinque Terra villages. Big cities really aren't our thing.
