Harping on

In NZ, when someone asks ‘Would you like some music?’ you assume they are going to turn on the stereo. Not at Zinting. We said "Ja" to some music and Elfriede gave us a private concert of traditional Austrian music on her harp. As you do.

“OMG!! When did you learn to play the harp??” Turns out she started lessons a few years after I left Zinting. Her teacher lives in a village on the other side of the mountains so in winter it was quicker to ski there.

You can just hear the conversation... “Darling, I’m just skiing over to the next village for my harp lessons. Do you want me to pick you up some schnapps on the way back?”. Oh ja.
