The highest waterfall in Europe

Elfriede took us on a 7 hour drive around the Tirol/Salzburg region. First stop, the highest waterfall in Europe. After seeing the incredible Rheinfall in Switzerland I wasn’t expecting to be that impressed, but it was even better. Very high, very powerful, and very beautiful. (It thunders down from the very top of the valley in the pic.)

We walked up beside it for 30 minutes surrounded by cool moist air, moss and trees. There were viewing platforms out over the side of the waterfall at many points on the way up. We were so close we got soaked by the spray.

After a long, steep walk, at the top we found – (drum roll) - a gift shop! As always.

Tourist attraction rule #1: there must be a gift shop. Even if you have to climb a mountain to get to it... you vill be visiting ze tacky gift shop!

  1. More beautiful than the Rheinfall? If I had my Swiss passport already, I would be really hurt! Now all I have to compete with is the highest Dutch waterfall which is, I believe, 47 cm...
Steve can beat that, standing up straight, peeing in his garden ;-))
Tjeerd, alomost Swiss, but not quite yet...
